Bronte Walk

I love walking around the Bronte county and browsing the charity shop around Keighley.

This summer I was lucky enough to visit The Bronte's family house and walked around the wild meadow of the moors and valley.

Even thou the Haworth village only have one main high street with independent shops, I seemed to see different and very curious delightful detail every time I visited this particular place.

Pursuit of optimism.

July is a special month for the creative industry. Impressive collections of hard work and new visionaries from freshly graduate designer were displayed in New designer show 2011, London. Talking and observing to one of the designers in 'One Year on' section allowed me to consider the best way to display your portfolio and sell able sample to gain new client and costumer for future work opportunity.

Today a little packet from Laura Olivia arrived. Her garish, and brightly coloured trademark is a joy to look at. I was kindly offered to select whichever pattern that I like directly on her lovely stands to go with my lavender pouch. Placing the lovely scented objects in my room reminded me on a lovely book that I picked up from the local library last year, Home is where the heart is by Ilse Crawford. It taught me a great deal on appreciating the space that we live. She explores the philosophy of putting the human element back into our homes, rather than just focusing on the aesthetics.

I thought I would share you one my favourite paragraph in the book on handmade.

We need the handmade to balance the mind-numbingly similar machine-made things around us, things that can only ever express the efficiency and speed with which they were produced. Craft makes our homes more human. We sense the time, care and skill that went into the making. Like life in its slow accumulation of experience, a crafted piece is an expression of the daily moods of the maker during its creation. It speaks of the concentration and love with which the object was made. It can be sensual, intricate, full of sentiment - and imperfect. It carries the imprint of the hands that made it.

Did you all had a good holiday season? Has anyone started (or broke) their New Year resolution yet :D?
The mood is rather gloomy back in my side of the pond at the moment. So I started Polyvore and it cheered me up very much this afternoon.
Beautiful friends, flowers, garden, and colourful summer reads is just some of the things that I look forward for 2011.

Solitude Saltaire

Salts Mill Gallery in Saltaire always greeted me with fresh smell of white lilies. Thanks to Jonathan Silver's entrepreneurial ambition. The 3 floors of magnificent historical mill is packed with inspiration and wonderful books to browse within one roof.

Exciting artwork by Yorkshire born artist David Hockney tend to lift my spirit up with his usual colourful palette and mostly his quirky way of dressing.

The antique space on the top floor is flourished with ever changing antiques delights, and contemporary interior objects to make the house more like a home.

Weekend is always a wonderful time to visit the mill with all the family. The historical town of Saltaire is also worth to walk around for a romantic on a nice day.

Every so and so month The house of Rose and Brown vintage store of Saltaire host a wonderful vintage fair that's worth to check out (there is a slide on my side bar that will give you more details for the next upcoming events).

Exploring new textures, colours, stories, and mood are definately some of my favourite part on creating wonderful fabrics and print.
The mind get a little bit shocked with over excitement and extensive work load that needed to be put down on a blank sketchbook.
The body is paying the price for the lack of good posture that I've been doing for hand embroidery.
But the heart is so very glad since I recieved new brief in this new term.

So far I have been lost in the world of Leiko Ikemura paintings and sculpture.

Thank goodness for updated 'New books' shelf in the library.
Laura Owens beautiful palette just makes me a very very very
happy bunny.

Rock Star

During Bank-Holiday weekend this August, I helped a sculpture workshop that was held in Hepworth Gallery Wakefield. So great to see the curious children's expression while building the composition from a flat based cardboard paper to a 3D constrution.

The Gallery will not be formally open till Spring next year. It really is worth the visit to see the building itself if you ever get the chance to visit this part of Yorkshire.

The minimalist silouhette design by David Chipperfield is one of my favourite contemporary building yet to finish in West Yorkshire.

I was not allowed to take picture of its magnificent interior space simply because it is not finish yet.

But I am so sure you guys can imagine how wonderful the building is and how much wonderful natural light can enter inside.

On one of the book that I read these past few weeks was a heart-touching autobiography by the artist Barbara Hepworth herself. Who knows maybe this lovely copies of the book will be re-published again so visitors can see what's inside her mind.

I never knew that a very delicate and very important part of plants can have such a wonderful textures and shapes when looked beyond the human eyes.

Which reminded me of organic looking sculptures by Ron Resch.

It's nice to know that giant fashion corporation like them are doing their bit to 'Save the planet'.

Summer Song

What a way to start the week by spending time walking along the canals, play around in organic cow farm with your close friends.

Above is Nina with her delightful walking outfit. At the end of the long walk, we stopped by at an antique shops with many shabby furniture and this little donkey porcelain that sits patiently wanting to be adopted.

I was very thankful to be invited by my friend's end of year orchestra performance who studied in Huddersfield University.

The 1,5 hour show time was divided into 3 different pieces of composition. My favourite act was the first one due to its sounds that were created by basic everyday object like fabric, shoes, brush, and paper cups of coffee. The texture of the sounds sits very comfortably against each other in wonderful rhythmical mode.

We came across so many different sounds everyday from traffic noises, water flushing, ear deafening music through our headphones. Sometimes it's just nice to hear something so organic acoustically against an idyllic structured silence.

Every year Huddersfield host a fantastic Contemporary music festival that's worth visiting. Click their Website here, for more information on how to take part on the event and workshops that runs from summer onwards.

Gathering hunter.

I found out about about a very enchanting place called Sissinghurst back in August 2009 from a tiny picture of German Vogue. Not till I was reading Eloise Gray blog on late Spring, that I began to hunt this delightful book.

Other than the story of how the author itself build his dream of sustainable living, the context of the book has some very wisdom tips of basic emotional foundation on how important community is to make a better environment to live in.

During my recent visit to North Yorkshire, I've tasted some of the best culinary experience that uses delicious ingredient that were locally sourced.

1. Take a peek at Shepherd Purse's handmade cheese product. My favourite one is their Lavender cheese because of its delicious fragrance too.

2. Interesting 'made in Yorkshire' alcoholic beverages from Sloemotion with interesting bottle design.

3. I tasted some very mouth melting Venison pie from Holme Farmed Venison company.

They also have some wonderful deerskin clothes and accessories that are handmade from traditional craftmanship around the area.

I came across a beautiful book about Mrs. Delany from the Leeds library.

Mrs. Delany can do delicate papercut, draw, and she's was one the the first acclaimed embroidery designer for royal dresses.
